Computer Training
Donka offers a robust selection of services spanning every aspect of assistive technology (AT). Services include: individualized computer training with assistive technology, mobile services to train your students, staff, or faculty about assistive technology all on-site, or to teach future special educators from local universities about assistive technology through the train-the-trainer program.
Donka is the only organization in our service area – DuPage and Kane County – to offer this type of training via a low student-teacher ratio (1:1 or 2:1) using a curriculum that is customized for each student.
Lab Training in Wheaton or Aurora
Donka has two physical locations for training students, the main lab in Wheaton and a satellite in Aurora. Each site is wheel chair accessible and with current computers, laptops, tablets, iPads, and assistive technology to meet students with even the most severe physical or visual disability.
Online Training
Donka can provide online training for students with transportation barriers.
Donka offers Basic to Advanced computer skills training based on each student’s goals.
- Microsoft Office; students can learn skills for MOS Certification
- Word Processing
- Spreadsheet and data entry
- Classes on how to use touch-technology that is used on iPads and other tablets
- On-site employer software reviews to ensure student access
- Portable on-the-job software
The focus of our training is on using Microsoft products, such as Word, Excel, and Access in conjunction with any required needed assistive technology. Students learn while working either one-on-one or two-on-two through realistic business scenarios including working on deadline-driven assignments that teach accountability to students.
Students can learn through a variety of instructional formats, at their own pace and ability level.
We use an easy-to-follow textbook with CD-ROM tutorials for review. Aside from following textbook instruction, students learn independent skills such as creating a budget, data entry, how to send, receive and access email, and how to use the internet for research.
